Off the Bricks

Off the Bricks - help

Off the Bricks is a set of walking riddle hunts through Boston, from Third Polar Arch. Questions, broken plaques and corrections go to hello@thirdpolararch.com. A person reads it. Weekdays are fastest.

The answer won't take

  • Answers are read off the real thing at the stop: a date, a word, a number. Spelling is forgiving, and numbers work as digits or words.
  • Plaques get moved, stolen and repainted. If what's there doesn't match, use "I'm here" (it works within about 40 meters) and the story still unlocks. If something looks wrong, hello@thirdpolararch.com reaches a person.

"I'm here" won't show up

  • It needs Location set to While Using (Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Off the Bricks). Downtown, tall buildings throw GPS off - step to a corner or an open spot and wait a few seconds.

I bought a pack and it's locked

  • Settings > Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought with. Family Sharing works for every pack and All Access.

Refunds

Offline

  • Packs live on your phone after the first download. If the map can't load, the app shows a route image. Then and Now and "I'm here" need the camera and GPS, not the internet.

Is a stop open?

  • Every stop works from the sidewalk. Hours for interiors are in the app and change - check before you go in.

Safety

  • Stay on sidewalks and public property, follow posted hours, and look up at crossings. Don't climb anything, go anywhere that's closed, or walk into traffic for an answer. Nothing in this app is worth it.

Corrections

  • Every fact in the app has a source, listed under "Sources" on each stop and at bricks.cold.fyi/sources. If we got something wrong, tell us with your source. We fix it and credit you.

Postcards

  • Finish any walk - a short cut counts, and the free walks count - and you can ask for the Alarm Club postcard set. One set per person, free, mailed while they last. US addresses only.
  • If the form says it's closed, they're gone for now.
