A Station in the Cellar
In 1903 the floor of the upstairs hall in Boston's old colonial capitol was raised nineteen inches so a subway station could fit in its basement. Four years later the Legislature passed a law to make sure nobody did that again. The station is still in the cellar. Walk around to the east end.
This is stop 5 of Under Boston. Walk it - any two stops are free.
