Off the Bricks (iOS app and website)
Off the Bricks doesn't have accounts and doesn't collect personal data. Specifically:
- Location. The app uses your phone's location while you're using it, to show how far the next stop is and to let you mark a stop as found when you're close. Your location stays on your phone. We never receive it. If you ask for walking directions inside the app, Apple Maps works out the route, so your phone shares your location with Apple for that request under Apple's privacy policy. If you choose another maps app, we pass it only the stop's location.
- Notifications. If you turn them on, the app schedules them on your phone. There's no account, no push server and no device token. Widgets and the Lock Screen walk read from your phone only.
- Camera. If you use Then and Now, the app shows your camera's live view with an archival photo on top. Nothing is recorded unless you save an image, and saved images go only to your own Photos.
- Purchases. Apple processes in-app purchases. We don't receive your payment details or your Apple Account.
- Progress. What you've found, your plates and your postcards are stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Content downloads. The app downloads walk content from our website, which is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may keep standard request logs (such as IP address and time). We don't use these to identify you. At the start and end of some walks the app asks our Dockwatch site for the nearest bike dock to that stop; it sends the stop's location, not yours.
- Postcard form (optional). If you ask for the free Alarm Club postcards after finishing a walk, the app opens a Google Form. The app sends nothing to it. That form is run by Google under Google's privacy policy. What you type in it - your name, email, mailing address and an optional note - comes to Third Polar Arch. We use it once, to mail the cards, and to email you only if the cards come back undeliverable. We delete each response after the batch it's in has been mailed. We never sell it or share it with anyone except the postal service.
- Children. The app is rated 13+ and isn't directed at children under 13. It collects nothing from anyone.
