Big Scores · STOP 12 · Downtown Crossing

Captain Kidd was arrested at the door of the governor's lodging in July 1699 - the house that stood here.

On July 6, 1699, Captain Kidd came through the door of the governor's lodging on this spot, and the governor wrote that he 'rushed in and came running to me, the Constable after him.' A search of his lodgings turned up gold dust and ingots hidden in two sea-beds. The house is gone. The bronze tablets across from Old South still mark the door.

This is stop 12 of Big Scores. Walk it - any two stops are free.

Bellomont held off on the arrest because Kidd had brought his family to Boston, and the governor reckoned he 'would not easily forsake' them.
